Staves

1. Choose the Staff tool . The Staff menu appears and handles appear on every staff.
2. Choose Staff > New Staves. The Score Manager appears.
3. Select the existing staff below which you want the new staff to appear.
4. Click Add Instrument and choose an instrument by double-clicking it.

   The new staff is added to the document below the currently selected staff in the Instrument List, moving any following staves down to make room for the new staff.

2. Click a staff handle and drag to move the staff in that system only. Measures in that system are selected automatically. Or, once the staff is selected, use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to nudge the staff up and down.

   When you drag, PrintMusic displays the distance from the top of the staff you are moving to the top of the previous staff. The units are whatever you’ve selected using Edit > Measurement Units. You can also select the measures of all staves in all systems you want to move, and then click and drag or use the arrow keys to nudge the staves vertically. Whenever you drag staves, subsequent staves in the system retain their spacing and move uniformly.

3. Double-click a staff handle and drag to move the staff in all systems. All measures of the staff are selected automatically when you double-click a staff handle.

When you drag or nudge the top staff of the first system, PrintMusic adjusts the distance between the top staff and the top system margin as shown below. (System margins are visible when the Page Layout Tool is chosen). When you drag or nudge the top staff of any system other than the first, PrintMusic adjusts the distance between systems.

1. Choose the Staff tool . The Staff menu appears and handles appear on every staff.
2. Select the handles of (or measure regions in) the staff or staves to be deleted.
3. Choose Staff > Delete Staves. PrintMusic deletes the selected staves, and places the top staff of the remaining staves in the former position of the top staff that was deleted, followed by any other staves.

To restore the deleted staves, immediately choose Edit > Undo.

1. Choose the Staff tool . The Staff menu appears.
2. Select a staff handle, then Staff > Edit Staff Attributes (or, double-click a staff handle, or a staff name). The Staff Attributes dialog box appears.

   You can also choose Staff > Edit Staff Attributes without selecting a staff. In the dialog box, choose a staff from the Staff Attributes for drop-down menu.

3. Change settings in the Staff Attributes dialog box to define the staff’s characteristics.
4. Click OK to confirm your settings and return to the score.

1. Choose Window > Score Manager.
2. Click the drag icon of the instrument that you would like to move and drag it into place.

   Note that when you do this, the Score Order changes to Custom. This means that future instrument additions are added beneath the selected instrument in the Score Manager. You may want to choose a Score Order to instantly update the order of instruments at any time.
