File Compatibility Warning dialog box

How to get there

This dialog box opens automatically when a file last saved in a newer version of Finale is opened in an older version of Finale.

What it does

Finale files with the file extension .MUSX can be opened in any version of Finale 2014 or later. While backward file compatibility is helpful to share documents between users, there have been notational improvements that can cause items to appear differently when opened in an older version of Finale. This includes articulation placement and contoured dashed slurs appearing as regular slurs.

  • Don't show this again. Check this option to prevent the File Compatibility dialog box from appearing each time an older version of Finale detects a file created in a newer version. This can be reverted by using the Warn When Opening Files from a Newer Version of Finale checkbox in the Preferences - Open dialog box.
