SongWriter Installation Details

To accommodate the autonomy of each of a computer's multiple users, and to prevent permissions issues, SongWriter installs its components to various locations on your hard drive depending on their function and required accessibility.

Because there may be multiple user accounts on the same computer, SongWriter installs all customizable files (i.e. files that each user may want to edit individually) to a "common" folder: (/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/SongWriter 2012). When SongWriter is launched while logged-in to a user-specific account, files are copied from this "common" location to a new, user-specific location for that account (<Current User>/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/SongWriter 2012XP: Documents and Settings/<user>/Application Data/MakeMusic/Finale SongWriter 2012, Vista/Windows 7: Users/<user>/AppData/Roaming/MakeMusic/Finale SongWriter 2012).

The following table lists the locations of the various installed files, and whether they are:

• Generated by the application and placed in the user-specific location (red)
• Installed to the common location, then transferred to the user-specific location when Finale SongWriter is launched while logged-in to that specific account (green), or
• Installed to the common location, then transferred to the user-specific location as needed. Files in the Configuration Files folder are copied individually as needed (blue). All other subfolders are transferred in their entirety (provided the subfolder does not already exist in the user-specific location, and the user has not modified Program Options-Folders)...

• Default Files folder, after selecting File > New > Default Document
• Document Styles folder, after launching the Setup Wizard
• Font Annotation folder, when opening any file
• Libraries folder, when selecting File > Load Library.
• Templates folder, when selecting File > New > Document from Template
