Change to SMuFL Font dialog box

How to get there

There are two times when this dialog box will appear.

  1. Open a document that is currently using a non-SMuFL music font as the default music font.
  2. Choose Document > Set Default Music Font. The font selection dialog box opens.
  3. Select a MakeMusic provided SMuFL-compliant font (see SMuFL).
  4. Click OK.

Or

  1. Choose Document > Data Check > Utilities.
  2. Check Search for This Font checkbox and select a non-SMuFL font from the Select menu.
  3. Click the radio button for Replace Font With and select SMuFL-compliant font from the Select menu.
  4. Click OK.

What it does

When switching from a non-SMuFL font to a SMuFL-compliant font, there can be differences between these fonts that can cause some changes to occur in the document. Changes may be the result of several factors, including: certain glyphs may not exist in the font being switched to resulting in a question mark or blank character and/or some glyphs may have different spacing defaults causing their relative positioning to change (which could result in a reflow of the page layout).

  • Yes. Choose this option to proceed with changing the default music font.
  • No. Choose this option to decline changing the font and return to the document.
  • Don't ask me again. Check this option to prevent the Change to SMuFL Font dialog box from appearing each time you change a document's music font from a non-SMuFL font to a SMuFL-compliant font.
