JW Staff Polyphony
How to get there
Choose Plug-Ins > JW Tools > JW Staff Polyphony.
What it does
The JW Staff Polyphony plug-in is a multi-purpose plug-in for notation tasks in your score that are related to Layers, Staves, Chord Lines, and Percussion Lines. The Tasks section has a dropdown menu for all the actions available for each of these types of musical content.
- Tasks • Layers • Staves • Chord Lines • Percussion Lines. This field allows you to expand the menu options to choose from tasks related to each of the different types of musical notation.
- Respace if necessary. When checked, this option will respace the music affected by the task as needed.
- Apply. Applies the chosen task to the highlighted portion of the score.
- Close. Click Close to dismiss the dialog box without making any changes or when you have completed your desired changes.
How to get there
Choose Plug-Ins > JW Tools then click the disclosure triangle to expand Layers.
What it does
Tasks under this section are specifically designed to work with layers and provide more efficient ways of editing them. Specific details on how each task works are provided in the plug-in window when the task is selected.
- Copy. Copies the contents from one source layer to another destination layer.
- Move. Moves the contents from one source layer to another destination layer. Layer-assigned expression are moved to the destination layer.
- Swap. Swaps the contents between two layers. Hidden layers can't be swapped. Layer-assigned expressions are also swapped.
- Remove. Deletes the contents for the selected layers. Layer-assigned expressions can also removed if that option is checked. Hidden layers are never removed.
- Keep. Keeps the contents of the selected layers, while deleting all other layers. Hidden layers are never removed.
- Merge. Merges note layers with identical durations.
- Split. Splits notes in Layer 1 to multiple layers.
- Split From Voices. Splits voices in Layer 1 to two layers.
- Expression Merge. Transforms identical layer-assigned expressions (if found for all used layers) into one expression for all layers.
How to get there
Choose Plug-Ins > JW Tools then click the disclosure triangle to expand Staves.
What it does
Tasks under the section provide tools for working with notation between multiple staves. Note that multiple staves must be selected when using these tasks. Specific details on how each task works are provided in the plug-in window when the task is selected.
- Merge. Merges contents from multiple staves to one staff (according to various notation styles).
- Merge to Layers. Merges one-layer staves into one staff with multiple layers.
- Split. Distributes notes from chords on one staff to multiple staves.
- Split from Layers. Distributes layers to individual one-layered staves.
- Split from Voices. Distributes 2 voices to two individual one-layered staves.
- Swap. Swaps the contents of the top and bottom staff in the selection.

Choose Plug-Ins > JW Tools then click the disclosure triangle to expand Chord Lines.
What it does
Tasks in this section are designed to work with notes that are part of chords in the notation that is selected. If no chords are selected, the Apply button generate a warning tone. Specific details on how each task works are provided in the plug-in window when the task is selected.
- Add. Adds lines of notes to chords or to single notes.
- Delete. Deletes a note line from chords. At least 2 notes must be available prior to removal.
- Drop. Drops a specific line one octave down.
- Keep. Keeps a specific note line while removing the other chord notes.
- Rotate. Rotates the chord by moving the top/bottom note an octave. A minimum of 2 notes is required for the chord to be rotated.
- Transpose. Transposes a specific note line or the full chord.
- Split Unisons. Splits unison intervals into octaves.

Choose Plug-Ins > JW Tools then click the disclosure triangle to expand Percussion Lines.
What it does
Tasks in this section are designed to work specifically with percussion staves and lines. Specific details on how each task works are provided in the plug-in window when the task is selected.
- Add. Adds more notes to existing percussion notes.
- Delete. Deletes the marked percussion note types from the percussion notes.
- Keep. Deletes all percussion notes, except the marked percussion note types.
