Sharing Music

The Share feature in Finale allows you to upload your music to SmartMusic where it can be easily accessed by performers, students and other users for efficient practice and collaboration. Without leaving Finale you can upload, share and manage your documents.

Your shared documents are located in the My Content or Shared with Others tabs in SmartMusic's Content Manager. Users that have shared access to a document can locate the document in their Shared with Me tab.

  1. Choose File > Share. The Share dialog box appears. If your document is not saved, you will be prompted to do so prior to sharing the file.

    Note that the first time you log in to your SmartMusic account on a computer, you will be prompted to allow Finale access to your Mac's Keychain. This allows Finale to retrieve your password for you to avoid the need to manually log in each time you choose Share.

  2. Enter the email address or username and password for your SmartMusic account and then click Login.

    If you are already logged into your account, the login page is skipped. If you do not have a SmartMusic account already, choose Create an Account.

  3. Click Share Privately.
  4. Type the email addresses of your recipients and click Next.
  5. Choose whether your recipients can download a PDF of your music by clicking Yes or No.
  6. Click the checkbox to indicate that you agree to the sharing Terms of Service. Click Next.
  7. The Share dialog box displays all the linked parts in the document with the equivalent instrument that will be used in SmartMusic. If you would like to edit the SmartMusic instrument, click on a part to highlight it and then select the preferred option from the pop-up menu below. Once the parts are selected as desired, click Share.

Clicking Share will upload the document to the Content Manager in your SmartMusic account and send email invitations to your recipients.

  1. Choose File > Share. The Share dialog box appears. If your document is not saved, you will be prompted to do so prior to sharing the file.

  2. Enter the email address or username and password for your SmartMusic account and then click Login.

  3. Click Create a Public Link.
  4. Choose whether your recipients can download a PDF of your music by clicking Yes or No.
  5. Click the checkbox to indicate that you agree to the sharing Terms of Service. Click Next.
  6. The Share dialog box displays all the linked parts in the document with the equivalent instrument that will be used in SmartMusic. If you would like to edit the SmartMusic instrument, click on a part to highlight it and then select the preferred option from the instrument pop-up menu below. Once the parts are selected as desired, click Share.
  7. Click Copy Public Link to copy the URL for your music to your computer's clipboard so you can paste it where needed. Anyone who accesses that URL will be able to view and play your music.
  1. Choose File > Share. The Share dialog box appears, displaying sharing information for your music.
    • If shared privately, a Shared With field lists the shared users.
    • If shared publicly, you can copy the public link.
  2. Choose one of the three options available:
    • Update Music to replace the version currently saved in Content Manager. Your parts are once again matched to equivalent SmartMusic instruments. Click Update to send your changes to Content Manager, which also updates your music for everyone who has access it.
    • Stop Sharing prevents users from accessing the document any further. When choosing this option, you will be asked to verify this action.
    • Content Manager takes you to your document in the Content Manager in SmartMusic. If you are not already logged into your account in your browser, you will be prompted to do so.
  1. Choose File > Share. The Share dialog box appears.
  2. Choose Upload Only.
  3. The Share dialog box displays all the linked parts in the document with the equivalent instrument that will be used in SmartMusic. If you would like to edit the SmartMusic instrument, click on a part to highlight it and then select the preferred option from the instrument pop-up menu below. Once the parts are selected as desired, click Upload. Finale attempts to upload your music to the Content Manager app.
  4. When the upload is complete, choose Open SmartMusic to go SmartMusic or Done to close the window.
