Set Default Music Font Error Message

Changing from a legacy third-party font to a SMuFL font Changing from a SMuFL font to a non-SMuFL font

How to get there

Go to Document > Set Default Music Font and attempt to change the document's Default Music Font from a non-SMuFL music font that is not included with Finale to a SMuFL-compliant font or attempt to change a SMuFL-compliant font to a non-SMuFL font.

What it does

Finale does not currently support converting the default music font of a document between a legacy font (a non-SMuFL font) that is not included with the program (see fonts) and SMuFL fonts. Attempting to do this will display a warning message indicating this. Finale also does not allow switching the default music font from a SMuFL-compliant font to a non-SMuFL font. This action is prevented and a warning message will appear to indicate this.

Noteman says: If switching your Default Music Font from a SMuFL font to a non-SMuFL font is necessary, this is possible. The best way to accomplish this is to use ClosedMusicXMLA standard open format for exchanging digital sheet music. MusicXML provides a solution for tasks such as publishing interactive musical scores on the Internet and collaborating with other musicians who use different music applications.. First, export the document with File > Export > MusicXML. Then, open a document template or style designed with the desired default music font, and import the MusicXML file into this document with File >  Import > MusicXML.
